Game art is a field that you can see put into effect every time you play a video game. It is the 3D art you see inside that game; the storyline enhancing cinematics, the in game effects, the characters moving about inside the world, and the physics behind it all. A degree in Game art will allow you to be part of a team that creates those fantasy worlds, sci-fi worlds, heroic characters, and loyal sidekicks.
A Game Art Bachelors program lets you learn how to create the visuals inside a game. It teaches you the ins and outs of 3D construction; including learning how to create the structures, textures, movement, and special effects that bring your work to life. Game Art is a fairly straight forward field. You will not be programming, or doing other such work for the game process. You will simply get to create the art – anything that is seen in the game you will learn how to make.
Programs for Game Art are usually a 21 month long course; with one or two classes each month. It includes classes such as model creation, character animation, level design, and game production. These classes cover a wide range of subjects that you would need to know in the world of a Game Artist. The courses it includes are different from graphics design and game development in that Game Art is just that: art. You will not need to program any of the background information in the game, or design logos. You will simply get to design and create the characters and worlds that the player will see and be amazed by.
A person who has earned a bachelors degree in Game Art will have many career options. You could choose to create characters as a Character Modeler or Character Rigger. Or maybe you would want to be the person who brought those characters to life as a Motion Capture Artist. Perhaps you’re more inclined towards the world that these characters live in, and wish to create it as a 3D Environment Artist or Texture Map Artist. And of course with any great project there needs to be structure. The person in charge of this is called the Technical Director, whose job is to create and maintain efficient work schedules and other such things. Any of these fields will let you help create an entire 3D world.
A Bachelors degree in Game Art is an excellent option if you love the process of creating. Taking a Two-Dimensional piece of art and turning it into a 3D marvel on a screen.
