Think You Can Create Video Games?

If you are an individual who is intensely creative and have a passion for gaming, a career in game programming could be the perfect fit. Want to find out more?

Game Programming: An Overview

Game designers and programmers are some of the most innovative and resourceful people out there. A career designing and programming video games requires not only creativity and a great sense of what gamers want, but it also requires a great deal of technical training and dedication.

Developers and programmers work in a variety of specialized areas. For instance, a developer may work specifically on a certain type of game console, or a programmer may work specifically on role-playing games. This allows those in these types of positions a great amount of creative freedom to work within an area they are especially interested in.

Developers and programmers can make an above-average living, with opportunities for raises, bonuses, fringe benefits, and project advancements common. Because game developers and programmers work within the entertainment industry, there is a great deal of competition between potential employees, and those who have exceptional training and/or experience will be noticed by employers more frequently than those without relevant training or experience.

Once hired on with a software firm, developers and programmers are expected to work hard and become dedicated members of the development team. Long hours are mandatory, but most firms counter the demands of the job with perks such as a casual dress code or extensive relaxation opportunities onsite. Individuals considering a career in the game development or programming field should possess a strong work ethic but know how to make the most of their off-time, as such time is usually short and opportunities for it far between.

The Relevance of Development and Programming in today’s World

Many people do not realize what a large role game developers and programmers play in how they experience the world on a daily basis. In addition to being responsible for creating popular video games used for recreation and relaxation, video game developers and programmers are involved in developing graphics used in media from cell phones to movie theaters. As the field of educational gaming grows, developers and programmers are increasingly involved in developing educational content used inside and outside of the classroom, and some of the world’s most exceptional developers are involved in creating the special effects involved in films such as “Avatar” and “Star Wars”.

Game Programming/Developing as a Career Path

For those interested in choosing video game design and/or programming as a career choice, the first step is to choose a great school. There are plenty of art and design colleges out there, so look more at what type of coursework the school provides. Courses involving image manipulation, 3-D modeling, and concepts like texture mapping will be invaluable. Also, look for degree programs such as a BA in game programming, development, or design, or similar degrees in the field of computer science or computer engineering. When choosing a program, also look for institutions that provide students with intern opportunities or job placement assistance. These types of programs will help you gain industry experience and networking opportunities necessary for landing a job when you graduate.

Author: Avi Solutions

Being a graphic designer is a career that is ideal for anyone who loves to use words and pictures to communicate ideas and messages to other people. Graphic designers are used for a whole variety of different jobs in lots of different fields which can include things like:
• Advertising on posters and in magazines.
• Designing the layout of websites for companies.
• Creating CD-ROM pages.
• Designing logos, letterheads and other branded material for companies.
• Creating brochures.
• Designing leaflets and handouts.
• Designing effects and credits for movies and television.

A graphic designer can do all of these and more as it is such a wide ranging and challenging job, but many people choose to focus on one or two specific areas and make them their specialty. Being a graphic designer is also very rewarding for anyone who has a keen interest in advertising and the way that design can influence people.
So what does it take to become a graphic designer? Firstly it is a good idea to take art and design related courses whilst at school, as this will give you a good grounding as you start on the route to becoming a graphic designer. If you have not done this you might be able to get on a college course which will help you to learn more about being a graphic designer and will help you to further your education. To be really successful as a graphic designer you should really have a bachelor’s degree and this is one of the most basic requirements for many of the graphic design jobs that are advertised.
During your bachelor’s degree to become a graphic designer you will cover a great deal of difference mediums and types of design. This will help you to gain an understanding of a wide range of different areas and it will also help you to decide what you would like to specialise your bachelor’s degree in. Subsequent years will then be spent in more specific areas in which you would like to work. There are so many different disciplines that are involved in graphic design that you might want to pick two or three and then in your final year focus on just one.
If you are already a graphic designer and would like to pursue your career in a different direction you will be able to get onto an associate degree or a certificate program. These are designed to help graphic designers to branch out into different disciplines and increase their knowledge of these disciplines. However you must be aware that you must also have a bachelor’s degree in graphic design before you can start on a different graphic designer course.
Becoming a graphic designer does mean a lot of hard work and a lot of determination, but it will be more than worth it when you are in your chosen profession. So even if you have not taken are or design school, you still have a chance to become a graphic designer.

A graphic designer is an artist, specializing in various forms of media. Some work in animation, illustration, photography or layout design. Many graphic designers freelance while others work for a company. The field is huge and constantly changing.

Studying the various areas of graphic design and selecting a preferred medium is the first step toward becoming a graphic designer. Watching market trends and technology trends can help narrow the choices for many artists.

Based on the field a person chooses to study, he or she should research schools to find one that is best suited, not only in terms of subject, location and affordability, but also in terms of alumni. Has the school turned out leaders in the field? Can the school help with job placement after graduation? Are there internship opportunities through the school?

Even during school, students begin developing their portfolios. Some samples are mockups created for school as an assignment, while others are pro-bono or low-paying jobs students obtain from small businesses or through family and friends. Experience in and out of the classroom helps students better determine their expertise and preference before entering the workforce. Additionally, they are in a great position to further specialize their studies, as they are still in school.

Throughout his or her career, a graphic designer should maintain his or her portfolio and stay abreast of trends in his or her specialty. Attending shows and conferences help graphic designers stay fresh and relevant.

Finally, the goal is to be the best. The best graphic designers have great web sites with an online portfolio. Catching the eye of a potential client is hugely important for a graphic designer. Perception is everything. To that end, displaying samples from prominent clients can create a great perception of value and quality or the designer.

by Geetika Jain

If you have always loved the beautiful world of images, art and animations, a career in graphic design and animation is for you. The application of these can be seen around everywhere in our daily lives. From newspapers, to magazines, to billboards to television and movie graphics and animations, one can see the creative and endearing application of graphic designing everywhere around. With the rising demand in this field, many students with a creative bend of mind and a knack for technology are opting for graphic design courses in India. There are many options on diploma and even degree kevel courses for graphic designing and animation in India and abroad. There are many private institutes that run such courses and also a few government colleges that offer degree courses.

One must remember that it is not a regular stream like other career options but it is becoming very popular now. With the rise of media, marketing and advertising companies, the demand for good graphic designers and animators has shot through the roof. And it is not a field where one will get linear promotions and hikes. Better the skill, higher the visibility and demand of a professional. So, those who possess a genuine love for art and technology will surely thrive in this world of graphic design and animation.

To enroll into a graphic design and animation course, one has to be very creative, with an eye for detail and hand on the pulse of the ever-evolving new technology. The duration of the course varies depending on the levels. While the bachelor of Fine Arts degree course is a normal three-year one, the diploma courses offered by private institutes vary in duration and content of the course. There are 6-month, one-year, two-year, three-year and advanced courses depending on the difficulty of the course. There are small beginner courses to start with and if you are not sure of the field, you should start with a beginners”?? course only. The course will give you a fair idea of what the field entails and the scope of this field. If you find yourself interested in this intriguing world of images, animations and bringing to life still images, you can always go for advanced courses.

In the curriculum of the course, the students will get to learn how to visually communicate an idea with either still or moving images and words. The graphic designing part deals with still images. The designs that we see on billboards, newspapers, magazines, T-shirt prints and many more such are all creations of a graphic designer. In this course, one learns the fine arts, design services, multimedia, communication, marketing and advertising basics. The course features a mix of creativity and technology and the students require a good base in arts and computers to succeed in a graphic designing course.

During the course, students are trained in the fundamentals of drawing and color principles. These are applied using various types of graphic design software. Adobe applications such as In Design, Illustrator and Photoshop are the main software that students are trained in during the course. Needless to say, the students are encouraged to look at the external world both visually and conceptually to come up with creative renderings of what they see around. They are trained to develop strong communication and problem-solving skills. However, here the communication is done more visually than verbally though both go hand in hand.

An animation course includes the art of infusing life into still pictures. All the cartoons that we have seen since childhood, animation movies and many animation effects in movies are all great works of animation. The field is fast developing and advanced courses in animation are being introduced. During the course, students get a lot of hands-on training and projects to work on. While the two courses are separate and one can choose which field one wants to join, there are some basic similarities in the two courses. Students of both the courses are trained in drawing, design, computer science and typography. Then, courses on 2D and 3D design and layout are common to both.

Students of animation courses get to learn the use of animation techniques to depict stories, give instructions and to entertain. They create animated stories, characters, and special effects. To do this, students need to learn creation of images, graphics, and sound and video files. Once the basic courses are done, students can even aim at doing a Ph D in design. There are a lot of career opportunities for students of graphic design and animation in India as well as abroad. If one is creative enough, can deploy technology to infuse life into pictures and images, can play around with videos and sounds, there are lucrative jobs waiting in the world of media, advertising, marketing and entertainment for designers and animators.
