Becoming a graphic designer involves understanding the many choices available as an artist and employee.

A graphic designer is an artist, specializing in various forms of media. Some work in animation, illustration, photography or layout design. Many graphic designers freelance while others work for a company. The field is huge and constantly changing.

Studying the various areas of graphic design and selecting a preferred medium is the first step toward becoming a graphic designer. Watching market trends and technology trends can help narrow the choices for many artists.

Based on the field a person chooses to study, he or she should research schools to find one that is best suited, not only in terms of subject, location and affordability, but also in terms of alumni. Has the school turned out leaders in the field? Can the school help with job placement after graduation? Are there internship opportunities through the school?

Even during school, students begin developing their portfolios. Some samples are mockups created for school as an assignment, while others are pro-bono or low-paying jobs students obtain from small businesses or through family and friends. Experience in and out of the classroom helps students better determine their expertise and preference before entering the workforce. Additionally, they are in a great position to further specialize their studies, as they are still in school.

Throughout his or her career, a graphic designer should maintain his or her portfolio and stay abreast of trends in his or her specialty. Attending shows and conferences help graphic designers stay fresh and relevant.

Finally, the goal is to be the best. The best graphic designers have great web sites with an online portfolio. Catching the eye of a potential client is hugely important for a graphic designer. Perception is everything. To that end, displaying samples from prominent clients can create a great perception of value and quality or the designer.

Your graphic design portfolio and resume should be ready to submit to prospective employers and clients if you want to improve your career.

Graphic designers are in huge demand, especially with today’s computer generated world. Because technology constantly changes, creating new expectations and requiring new skill sets, and because the financial market is volatile, it is always a good idea for graphic designers to keep a portfolio and resume on hand.

With the advent of the internet, job hunting and the ability to conduct business very quickly has become the norm. There are tons of job sites on the internet and there are plenty of people out there who are constantly looking for graphic designers. From one site you can search all over the world and find companies who are looking for designers, whether freelance or salaried. Having your credentials ready to submit makes a job search that much easier.

Even if you have a graphic design job you love, you always want to make sure that your graphic design portfolio is sharp, professional looking and ready to present. Not only could you lose your job without notice, or get another offer you can’t refuse, but the sales team at your current job may need to present your portfolio to prospective clients to help close a deal.

If you have a problem writing a resume, you can go online and find plenty of information on how to create one. It should always include your educational background, your work experience, and professional references. Listing experience with software and operating systems, training and certifications, and any awards you have received is important as well. The resume should employ proper grammar and clear language, making it easy to read.

Perhaps of equal value to the resume is your portfolio. While your experience is listed on the resume, and is certainly important in delineating your qualifications, there is no better way to prove your capabilities than with samples of your work. This is as true for the seasoned designer as it is for fresh graduates. Showcasing your skills through samples from previous work or mock ups is your best entrance to a new job.

The portfolio should be an attachment to your resume. The company can check your job history and speak with references, but seeing your work at the outset will give you a jump on the competition. Plus, if the hiring manager likes your work well enough, he might just hire you on the spot.

Graphic designers are needed in all facets of today’s world. Anywhere that you see some kind of graphic image whether it be on television, newspapers, online, clothes, or roadside billboards, a graphic designer was the one who produced the final image that you are seeing. However, this abundant use of graphics does not necessarily mean there is an abundance of job openings. A depressed market means many smaller businesses are cutting costs and trying to satisfy some of their design needs internally with other possibly less-qualified employees.

Job scarcity means tougher competition for you. It is always helpful to keep your resume and portfolio available so you can be the first one to respond to job openings and show that you are prepared and look to be determined to do quality work.

Graphic Designers have many different job opportunities in this career field. Knowing your options can help you decide which direction to take next.

Graphic Designers have many different job opportunities in this career field. Whether through print, video, or internet, there are a multitude of choices in any visual media. As you embark on your education or your career, carefully assess your strengths and preferences against these many career options so you can make the best decision for your graphic design career.

Anyone who is interested in having a career in graphic design will need to have a bachelor’s degree. This is required for everything from entry level jobs on up. The other requirement is creativity and a good imagination. It is also important for graphic artists to have a good mastery of the tools of their trade which include computer techniques, drawing skills and software programs. Of course, computers are the most important tool because they are used for generating and animating images as well as for creating multimedia presentations. In order to master the computer programs that are used for these things, you will have to do a lot of studying. You will also need to keep up-to-date with all of the changes that are constantly taking place in regards to this technology.

Graphic designers will be able to work in several different types of businesses because graphics and multimedia presentations are increasingly important to the worldwide marketplace. You will find this in everything from social media networks to the various platforms that are being used for mobile devices.

At the heart of every advertising agency’s products there is graphic design. For this reason, advertising agencies are the one business wherein most graphics professionals work. While there are occasions when a graphic artist will come up with an ad’s design, most of the time they are responsible for the animation, color, shading, sound and other effects that go into making the advertisement stand out in the crowd. After all, there are a lot of things that an account manager might want for their ad campaign, including a storyboard presentation of the ad for conceptualization purposes.

Another area of graphic design is web development and design. In this medium it is extremely important to understand how to use computer software for multimedia purposes because websites are at the heart of virtually every business, from small retailers to major corporations. Many of these websites rely on elaborate video presentations, illustrations and well-lit photographs.

There are also graphic designers who work with computer programmers and multimedia professionals to create and animate video games. Games require character movement, shading and simulated lighting to be present in every scene, all of which designers handle.

???????? ????

While there are a lot of businesses that will employ you as a graphic designer, you can also do what 25% of those who are working as graphic artists today do: work for yourself. Whenever you are self-employed you may find yourself working for architectural firms, attorneys who need graphic presentations, fashion designers, publishing houses, real estate firms and sign companies.

These are just some of the many businesses that hire graphic designers today. Typically a designer will choose to specialize in one of these business sectors and continually develop his or her skills as technology changes in that field.

A graphic design portfolio is a critical component of presenting your skills to prospective employers and clients. Use these tips to create a great portfolio.

????? ??????? ??????? ?????? ??????? ????

A graphic design portfolio is critical component of presenting your skills to prospective employers and clients. Your collection of samples is your single most important selling point as a graphic designer. You can have all the experience in the world, but if your portfolio does not showcase it properly, you may find yourself missing out on great career opportunities. Here are some tips for making your portfolio both memorable and professional.

First, you will want to show a large amount of variety. You will not find two clients or employers that want exactly the same thing. Put a lot of versatility into your portfolio so you can display you have talents in many areas and not just one in particular. If you are not yet comfortable in more than a couple of areas, take time to develop more versatility. Your future clients and employers will have more confidence in your abilities.

Next, be sure to show your work in its best light. While you do want to add a few extras to make your portfolio stand out, you do not want to detract from your work. Use a layout that complements your work and displays it simply.
Only show your strongest work. Sometimes nostalgia clouds good judgment when it comes to your projects. You may have a couple of favorites that appeal to you personally, and yet they were not your best work. In this case it is best to just leave those out. Instead, include work that got you the most recognition. Clients and employers are going to be looking for the best quality in graphic design. Be sure to examine your work objectively, and think with your intuition rather than emotions.

It may help to ask a few different people for their opinions on your portfolio, just remember to be open to constructive criticism. If you have colleagues or peers who are graphic designers, or who work closely with designers, this can be the perfect opportunity for you to get an honest, knowledgeable opinion of your work. Ask others if they have any suggestions about your portfolio or about the layout. Showing your portfolio to friends and family may not be the best route. You will find that their feelings towards you influence how they respond to your work. ?????????? ????? ?????? ?????????

Finally, create an online graphic design portfolio. While it will not replace your portfolio, showing your work online is a great way to attract future work. Showcasing your work online is also a great way to reach more prospects and exhibit your abilities. Include a few different ways for prospective clients and employers to contact you, even if it is just by email. You will also want your web site to look professional and be easy to use. Following these tips will ensure your graphic design portfolio sells you well.

Illustration and graphic design have a long history of competition. Is graphic design replacing illustration as a medium?

Illustration and graphic design have a long history of competition, both with each other and with photography and image manipulation. To say any one – or several – are better than another is to over-simplify the problem. In marketing, it’s all about perception of the product: Image is not everything; it is the only thing.

A classic modern case where traditional illustration is the only medium that can convey an entire concept in less than 30 seconds is the brilliant advertising campaign of UPS using nothing more complex than a whiteboard, a dry marker and an eraser. For those unfamiliar with the campaign, an illustrator is standing in front of a very normal office accessory: the whiteboard. With a series of simple lines and a staccato rapid-fire delivery of marketing patter, the illustrator is constantly creating and altering a complementary rendering in the trademark brown of the corporation by selective addition and subtraction of lines. This message requires this medium for its speed, elegance and mass appeal to its intended audience: corporate management. This particular ad campaign is the perfect vehicle, combining familiarity in presentation, high-concept design and fast delivery of the concept competently presented. After all, UPS is all about delivery.

On the other side of the same coin, the current eSurance advertisements represent a subset of the graphics arts – animation. Today, more and more animation is Computer Generated Imagery (CGI). In this particular context, the images are deliberately cartoon-ish, reminiscent of comic book art. With more sophisticated tools like 3D Studio Max and Zbrush, CGI can be virtually indistinguishable from a live photograph. Granted, animation is not classical illustration in the Norman Rockwell or Howard Chandler Christy sense, however, it is a valid medium in today’s world of High Definition TV marketing.

????? ????? ? ?????????

There are two areas of illustration that will probably never convert to digital graphics any time soon. They are the niche disciplines of political cartooning – the marketing of politics by illustration – and the arcane world of storyboard illustration for film and conceptual advertisement production. Both require very rapid rendering and accommodation for instantaneous changes. The primary bottlenecks in both styles is technologically-based. Even with computers and computer-aided design, the amount of time required to render an illustration can vary from several minutes for a flat illustration to many hours or even days for precision lifelike 3D illustrations.

For the artists considering a career in graphics illustration, a strong grounding in technological sciences is virtually mandatory, as is a classic education in the elements of art, using traditional media to master the concepts of form and function. This is one of the gray areas in the pursuit of an academic degree where the Bachelor of Arts and the Bachelor of Science must live in peaceful co-existence. It is a prime candidate for a dual major baccalaureate.

The future of illustration is going to depend on the transition of current 3-D modeling and its ability to be translated into laser holography. The wrap-around multiple perspective possibilities promised by more powerful computers, faster rendering times, multiple pipeline graphics and prodigious amounts of memory are already apparent in many of the video games currently in production.

The purpose of illustration and graphics is to transcend reality without violating the viewer’s willful suspension of disbelief. The future of illustration is assured. Consider the only lasting impressions of the most primitive and ancient people on Earth are simple illustrations painted on the walls of caves several millennium ago is de facto proof of the endurance of the form. There is no reason or cause to think illustration is a dying art. If anything, it is a blank canvas, ripe with potential and the reasonable expectation of bearing fruit.

A logo refers to a pictorial illustration of an organization. A logo is a graphical symbol that reflects the nature, vision or core activities of an enterprise. Entrepreneurs use this graphic symbol to promote the company’s products and services. It carries the brand identity of an organization. They use their trademark not only on their products but also on the rest of the corporate literature. It distinguishes a company’s product or services from the competitor’s products or services. A designer should consider a few aspects that are essential while designing a quintessential logo. While designing a logo a designer should keep a few points in mind. The main purpose of an attractive trademark is to leave a deep and positive impression of the company’s image in the mind of a potential customer. Therefore, you should create few essential features of a logo like design, color or size beautifully. A designer should avoid using designs copiously. A person can use many types of designs in creating a logo. One can use graphics in a logo. A trademark can also be text based or include initial letters of the company’s name. A designer can also use animation in the logo. However, among all these designs one should create a logo that is simple in appearance. A simple design makes a logo more comprehensible and lucid for a viewer. A potential customer retains the name of a company for a longer time. A company uses its name in a logo so that the first thing a customer grasps is its name. A designer should select the color of a company carefully. The shade should be attractive for a viewer. You should avoid using very bright colors that are blinding in appearance. One should use those shades that are pleasing to a human eye. During the printing of a logo on any corporate literature, the use of shade should not hamper the quality of the trademark. The shade should also reflect the nature of the business dealt by an organization. The size of the logo should not be very large so that it becomes problematic while printing. You should not keep a very small size that becomes incomprehensible when printed. A designer should keep a standard size of a logo. If you want to create a logo for your company there are many logo designs available on the Internet. You can also get numerous ideas to design a logo in an innovative and creative manner.

The importance of integrating graphic design into websites has increased as a result of its favorable appeal and usability. It is difficult to imagine a website with only plain text and no design. Such sites would surely prove to be a bore thing for the visitors. Graphic designs add the glamor quotient as well as make a website more interesting and communicative.Graphic designs have to be in line with the web design and site content that suits the needs of the clients. Online competition of companies of all businesses is getting fierce by every passing day. Therefore the emphasis lies in creating innovative and effective graphic design elements.

Quality is always appreciated by the customers, bad quality of design are major turn-off and creates bad impression on the user. Therefore graphic design should have excellent quality and have gone through quality control check before making it online. Correct color combination and spellings should be there, any error in any of these would adversely affect the image of your organization. Text or graphic elements are utilized for producing something rational satisfying the clients requirements. The design should be such that it is soothing to the eyes, makes sense and captures attention of the target customers.

A website has only few seconds to impress the visitor of any particular website, an image conveys thoughts and can be a substitute for thousands of words too. Therefore graphics on the home page has to be eye-catching and sensible enough to keep the potential customers hooked to your website for long.

To create graphic design certain tools are compulsory. First and foremost tool is a ‘Computer’ without it no online activity is possible. It acts as business as well as design tool. Graphics software can produce illustrations, images, layouts and touch-up photos. More the computer is latest version with better features, the results would be more spectacular.

??????? ??????? ?????

Areas where the use of graphic design is greatest are product packaging, advertisements, website design and magazines. Any product packaging contains graphics in the form of logo, designs in different color and formats. In graphic designs composition plays important role, presentation is everything in graphic designing.

Discuss with your graphic designer in detail about the designs that can be used to produce desired results and capture the market audience. There are skilled professionals having experience and knowledge about the aspects of graphic designing and related issues.

by Kevin Kidder

First of all, I would like praise you for doing a little homework. Not only will you be better educated in directing the image of your company, but you will also learn how to get the most out of your company image.

I want to discuss logo design in general. A logo should be easy to read and easy on the eye. Let’s look at some of the national brands, that we all know and recognize: AT&T, McDonalds, Nordstroms, etc. Maybe you have even heard of Starbucks…… and I bet you could recognize their cup lying on the side of the road!

We all know what the company is, even if we only see a portion of the name or logo. Each is easy to read and recognize. Many also adhere to a certain theme of colors. This is called “Branding” or Brand Identity. It permeates every aspect of the business from cards, to cups, to buildings, to vehicles, to advertising. Sounds simple enough!

How do we build brand identity for your business?

Font:
First, make sure that your name is legible. The script, tribal, or gangster font might look cool, and even go with the image of the business that you are in. BUT, to be honest, if a potential client has to decipher the puzzle, just to find out who you are and where to find you, they are most likely to go with someone else, a more recognizable name.

Colors:
Colors may have more of an impact on a person’s impression than you may think. Are there any colors that you can readily associate with your type of business? Perhaps the image that you are trying to portray?

Let’s look at an example:
You are opening a day spa. The basic premise for a day spa is what? Relaxation, tranquility, and so forth. We want to relay this message in the colors and tones that we use. Red, bright orange, bright yellows (what we refer to as “hot” colors) won’t work well to relay the “feeling” that we are trying to present. How about softer tones of greens, earthtones, maybe a splash of gold for that upscale, pampered touch. Skulls, flames, and tribal graphics…… probably not a good idea! But then again, maybe that is just the “odd” approach that you may need to make your business different…..or attract the client base that you are marketing to.

What type of “feel” do you want your company to have? Sophisticated and professional? Fun and whimsy? Energetic and exciting? Get the picture?

Now that you have come up with a basic look or feel for your design, how does it translate to the rest of your business?
Will it work for letterhead? Business Cards? Window Signs? Vehicle Graphics? Web site? Pens? Shirts? ……..
 ????????? ??? ??????????? ????? ?????

Bottom Line:
To get the most out of your logo (and design dollar), make sure that your logo is fitting to your business and image. Make sure that it can be used for more than a fancy business card. Design does not have to cost an arm and a leg, but quality will surely have an impact on your business.

????? ??????? act

Make sure that your “graphic designer” truly has your company’s best interests in mind, not the quick lining of his pocket book. Don’t settle for the “I’m the designer, therefore I know” attitude. If something does not look quite right, don’t be afraid to ask “why?”.
Why did you choose those colors?
Why that font?
Why that layout?
You may even end up teaching them a thing or too.

Have you ever wondered what makes a great website? Regardless of subject matter or industry, there are a few key elements that the best websites get right, making them popular and successful. Follow these 6 Best Web Designing Tips to make sure that your website is the best it can be.

??????????? ????? ???????

Great Look! Your site should look fresh and modern, while upholding the same brand image that you have offline. Choose similar colours for your website as you use in other marketing materials, as well as the same logo. The site should be visually appealing, with plenty of interesting features, but not too fussy or distracting. The layout should be easy to understand, letting site visitors easily navigate to the pages that they want.

Put Your Customers First. Thinking about search engines, and how your page will rank in Google is great, but there is no point if your visitors will simply click away from your site within a few seconds of landing. Your goal is to convert visitors into customers, so you should make sure your site is customer friendly. Keep popular items and contact details easy to find, and avoid multiple menus where visitors have to click several links before finding the information they need buried within your site structure.

Don’t Be Spammy. This follows on from the point above, that your site should be designed primarily for visitors, with SEO as a secondary consideration. Don’t stuff your pages so full of keywords that the content doesn’t make sense. You should also steer clear of bad tactics such as adding lists of keywords to the bottom of your pages, and cluttering up the site with too much advertising.

Make it Fast. Visitors online want information fast, and they have no patience to wait around while a large image or fancy graphic loads. Make sure that your pages load quickly, with the most important information loading first. If you are using large image files or videos, place them in a position where the reader can still browse the rest of the page while the bigger elements load. If you have a flash site think about offering a plain html alternative link for visitors with a slow internet connection.

Do Your Homework. Think long and hard about your target keywords before you start your website as this will make your SEO challenges a lot easier in the long run. Take the time to find out what keywords your customers are searching for, and how much competition there is.

Quality Content. Visitors and search engines alike love genuine, quality content. Fill your site with plenty of interesting information about you, your company, your products and services, and your industry.

by Kate Henlay

Usability on the Web is vital if you want to have customers continue to come back. A research has found that only 42% of Web users find what they require on any given Web page which leaves the remaining 58% still searching. This means that Usability of a website is central in order to get sales and make money. If your customers can’t find what they’re looking for, they won’t be purchasing, and odds are, they won’t be returning. It doesn’t matter how new and inventive your site is, the fact is cool doesn’t cut it.

Many people believe that graphics make the Web site more usable. Another group feels that they make sites unusable. Neither group is right. According to a study, the amount of images on a page has no perceptible effect on the collection of information, with two exceptions that include animation and download time. These are the findings that website designers should always keep in mind.

t xxx

It’s also important for the website designers to know that when searching for information, users want information, not fancy, arty sites. A really common format for sites right now is called a “Shell Site”. These sites are where the navigation is developed and then the content is tossed into that format or shell. It is found that when a user is searching information, shell sites are very difficult to use. Because the links are the same on all navigation within the site, they don’t add anything new once they have been assessed. Therefore, when a user is searching information, the navigation shell is generally abandoned as an information source instantly.

If a user doesn’t click on the Search button, they are 50% more expected to get the information they are searching than if they do. This is alarming until you think about how most search engines control searches and results. A lot of sites have numerous different search engines for the Web site. These may be intuitive to the Web designer, but often the user doesn’t know what the difference is (or even recognize that there is a difference). Users don’t know what they will get when they search. They may be getting a list of pages on this site, the Web as a whole, a sub-set of this site, or something wholly different. Often the search results are apparently unrelated to what the reader searches on. There’s a perfect solution for this problem in the shape of web content . The web content will get people to your site and give them the information so they keep coming back. It’s also recommended to put lots of links on your site so that your readers can navigate as easily as possible. What is intuitive to you might be unclear to the user, so give your readers a lot of different ways to find to the information on your site.
